Rebuilding with [Biblical Literacy]
A beEmboldened Online Course
What is it?
Welcome to the second course of our rebuilding series, Rebuilding [with Biblical Literacy]! This course will gently walk you through how to read your Bible after the Bible has been used as a weapon against you. You’ll gain clarity on words like “exegesis” and “hermeneutics,” learn lots of tips and tools for effective reading, and gain insight and practice into how to revisit passages that may have been misapplied or used to cause harm. This course is also a great fit for anyone desiring to prevent spiritual abuse victimization, because it will equip you to check what you’re being told for accuracy.
Throughout these 4 weeks, you will have the opportunity to explore your questions in an environment that understands the barriers you are facing (we, too, have faced them). Remove the fear from the Bible, get your abusive leader’s voice out of your head, learn the real meaning of that verse, and begin to discover the truth of God’s character and Word. This is a HUGE step toward solid ground as you heal from the hurt and betrayal you have suffered. We are so honored to be part of your journey in this way!

Course Origin Story
The information in these 4 modules changed Naomi’s (beEmboldened’s Founder) life. She went from having a strong aversion to the Bible–being afraid of it, not knowing what to do with it other than pretend it wasn’t in her nightstand drawer anymore–to having a strong love and appreciation instead. Genuinely. She never would have imagined saying that outside of some Christian-ese feeling that she was supposed to have, but it’s true. And now, she feels grateful to bring this same education to you.
Course intention:
The purpose of this course is to equip you with the necessary information, understanding, and practical tools for a safe, healthy, and confident relationship with the Bible. This course will prepare you to take the next steps in your own personal story.

Who is it for?
Rebuilding [with Biblical Literacy] is for anyone who has experienced spiritual abuse and everyone who desires to prevent victimization. This includes, but is not limited to:
Someone who has been told they need to be reading their Bible, but they just cannot do so due to spiritual abuse.
Someone who knows that spiritual abuse is real and wants to equip themself to stay safe from theological/doctrinal harm.
Someone who has been in a high-control group or a cult.
Someone who has been abused in the name of religion.
Someone who is struggling with their faith after a trauma.
Is this you? The pain, the fear, the anxiety, the aversion, the guilt...Every time you look at your Bible, or try to read a passage, or hear that verse quoted, and you find that you just can’t. You just cannot because the triggered response is so overwhelmingly strong that you shut down and must walk away.
Is this you? The confusion, the fear, the anxiety...Every time you read your Bible or listen to a sermon, you wonder if the passages are being understood correctly, taught correctly. Who do you trust and how do you know without the knowledge and tools to double-check for yourself?
Is this you? The vulnerability, the fear, the anxiety...You have heard about spiritual abuse and know its claws reach far and wide, and you know what you do not know: you do not know how to protect yourself from theological and doctrinal manipulation.
If one of these voices sounds like yours, this curriculum was designed for you by people who have lived it themselves and come through this struggle to a solidly rooted place with confidence. We understand.
This program is for you if you have:
Who created it?
Naomi is the daughter of a pseudo-Christian cult leader. She was raised, yet hidden, within mainstream culture and public-school education, where no one knew—or the few with a sense of something, stayed silent. She did not know this was the case until she was 28, from which point she has sought after truth with a questioning mind, adamant to never find herself so lost again.
Throughout Naomi’s career, she has experienced the beauty of one individual walking alongside another in a safe and healthy relationship. She has seen and felt the power of being present, and in sharing in the experience of someone else. She is passionate about the hope that comes with the choice to embrace life’s most difficult challenges—to lean in with gentleness, kindness, and grace—knowing that the possibility of a fulfilling life is real. She has committed herself to this reality for not only herself, but for those with whom she has the honor of walking alongside.
Naomi holds a Master of Social Work from the University at Buffalo, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Colorado, and has a Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Denver Seminary. Her areas of focus include death and dying, grief and loss, and spiritual and religious abuse, including cult abuse, as well as general biblical studies of both the Old and New Testaments.

Endorsement for beEmboldened:
Dr. Paul Copan, Christian Theologian, Author
"I am very grateful for Naomi Wright's beEmboldened ministry. It meets a very pressing need within our own culture and, alas, toxic church cultures characterized by spiritual abuse. Naomi's own first-hand experience of suffering spiritual abuse, the work of God's Spirit to deliver her from these oppressive chains, her theological training, and her compassionate Christ-centered approach enable her to offer effective and concrete help to those who have suffered such abuse. I am pleased to commend beEmboldened as a fresh, relevant, and important resource for the church today."

The recorded content is between 1 - 1.5 hours each week. With time to sit with the information, take notes if desired, and maybe begin to apply a new tool, we would recommend setting aside 2-3 hours of your time each week.

3. Do I get the full course all at once?
For an On Demand course, yes, you will have access to the whole course right away.
If you’re participating in a Full Access experience, we do not want you to “drink from a firehose” and want the content you’re engaging with to line up with our optional weekly Q&A sessions. This is why we will be dripping content to you each week. This means you will receive your course on a week-to-week basis (starting each Monday). This keeps the information bite-sized, allowing you to really sit with the information you are learning each week, to begin applying the new information and tools, and to get the most out of your optional weekly Q&A time.
4. What if I miss a week?

Live Q&A time cannot be made up, so you’re encouraged to attend as many live as

Once you purchase your course, you will have access to the content for 1 year. Feel free to go back through the information as often as you like. 10. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Can I really do this?
Naomi lived the lessons in these modules herself and she has experienced firsthand the profound changes they offer us. Many others have also gone through this course and have shared their gratitude for its creation. You are equally capable and special – we all have the opportunity to rebuild after spiritual abuse!
11. Am I required to attend the Q&A? (Full Access, only)
Live Q&A time is optional for all who purchase a Full Access experience. There is no pressure to join or participate. A qualified beEmboldened team member will be there live and would be thrilled to see you, if you choose!
12. What if I cannot make the live Q&A? (Full Access, only)
Live Q&A time is pre-scheduled. Due to our strong commitment to confidentiality, the event will not be recorded, so those in attendance feel most safe to share. We recommend putting the date on your calendar right away so you can plan around it, if
possible!

If you’re thinking, “This sounds amazing but I’m still not 100% sure.”
We get it. Religious abuse is painful and it has likely bled onto every area of your life, both internal and external. If you’ve sought support before, you’ve probably been disappointed. Either they backed away slowly, not knowing what to say, or they were accidentally dismissive with platitudes about God having a plan. Maybe your suffering was minimized or your integrity was called into question. Or maybe someone was fascinated by the train wreck and forgot that no, you’re a real person, and the damage has been done to you and your very real life. If any of this resonates with you, our hearts break with yours. This should not have happened–you were treated unfairly, whether intentional or accidental.
Our hope for this course is that as you watch and listen, you’ll know you’re understood. Naomi, Blake, Karla, and Kelsea, all offer differing perspectives to connect with, providing you with countless moments of, “Yes! Me too!” and “I’m not alone" and "That's a good idea."
There is strength to be found in not feeling alone. We hope you begin to feel that strength, that possibility, that hope that yes: this moment is temporary, and yes: you will continue forward into a life with depth, fullness, and trust. Maybe again, or maybe even for the first time.
