Can I?
A beEmboldened Online Course
What is it?
The Can I? course has been designed based on the most-asked questions we experience here at beEmboldened about God and the Christian life after spiritual abuse.
With our credentialed facilitator and three survivor guests all sharing from their own personal stories, you will experience safety as you explore your questions and begin, or continue, considering how you view the world.
Throughout 7 weeks, you will have the opportunity to engage with tough, but important topics, and to take another step toward solid ground as you heal from the hurt and betrayal you have suffered.
Our hope for this course is that as you watch and listen, you will know you are understood, as you become more equipped for the next steps in your own journey after spiritual abuse. Naomi, Blake, Karla, and Kelsea all offer differing perspectives for you to connect with, providing you with countless moments of, “Yes! Me too!”, “So, I’m not the only one!" and "That's a good point." We know how valuable these connections are and we are so glad to offer them to you in the comfort of your own space.

What Sets Us Apart
If you're reading this, you've likely been told a lot of things about God, the Bible, Jesus, and more, and now you might be questioning what was true and what wasn't. What does the rest of Christianity have to say, instead of your particular group, sect, or abusive leader or spouse? What about history and science? How about in comparison
to what other people believe? You have important questions that need answers. So, let's talk about them.
But it won’t hit quite right if we just talk about these topics as if spiritual abuse hasn’t happened. Because if you’re here, it has probably marked your life. These conversations aren’t the same for you and for us as they are for someone who has not been harmed in this way. These questions aren’t merely curiosities anymore, are they?
They’re loaded now. And that’s not only fair and valid, it’s massively important because what’s behind the question can dramatically change the question. We recognize this need and we’ve created a course with this reality as its heartbeat. There is overwhelming evidence for why Christians believe what they believe, and a particular pastor or leader is not required in order to find and understand this evidence.
"Can I?" provides a way to connect with others who are similarly struggling and want a better understanding of the faith – not just simply to be told to believe or what to believe, but instead providing the evidence for the Christian faith.
The best part? You get to decide what you think for yourself.

Who is it for?
"Can I?" is for anyone who has experienced spiritual abuse and anyone who desires to
prevent victimization. This includes, but is not limited to:
Someone who knows that spiritual abuse is real and wants to equip themself to stay
safe from theological harm and bully pastors.
Someone who has been in a high-control group or a cult.
Someone who has been verbally, emotionally, physically, or sexually abused in the name of religion.
Someone who is struggling with their faith after a spiritual trauma.
Someone who wants to better understand this context so they can more effectively
support others.
Is this you? Fearful of asking questions about anything spiritual because you have been met with shame and guilt for not simply believing what you’ve been told; for not having “enough faith.”
Is this you? Never been provided a safe place to ask questions and seek answers for yourself.
Is this you? Want to engage in these conversations with people who have themselves suffered from spiritual abuse and just “get it.”
This program is for you if you have:
Who created it?

creating programs that provide support within the context of spiritual abuse.

Disclaimer: Live Q&A not offered for On-Demand Courses
Why was this course created?
“After creating Rebuilding [After Religious Abuse], our flagship course that precedes this one, I began to recognize that once survivors had their feet under them, a new series of questions was being asked. This made sense, based on knowledge of how we function as humans and what I experienced within my own journey forward after spiritual abuse. So, I compiled the questions I was hearing from most individuals, families, and groups I have the honor to come alongside, and began writing Can I? 7 Questions about God and Christianity."
”The result is this 7 module course that is unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere, because it was not designed for someone with a fresh slate. It was designed for someone like me, maybe someone like you, too, who has been crushed by these topics in the past. Someone who remains curious despite all odds, or someone who wishes they were no longer curious but just needs to know –
they need to talk about it.
I needed to know. I needed to talk about it. Maybe you do, too?
If so, I’m glad you’re here.”

What transformation this course offers:
The purpose of the “Can I” course is to provide a safe place to explore your questions and to begin, or to continue, considering how you view the world. By the end of our 7 weeks together, you will have had the opportunity to engage with tough but important topics, gain education and understanding, and will have taken another significant step toward solid ground as you heal from the lies, the confusion, and the hurt you have unjustly suffered. We have wrestled with the difficult questions in this course ourselves and have gone on journeys of disentangling what we were taught in our spiritually abusive environments. We’re so excited that you’re asking these same questions and seeking to make decisions for your life as well. Questions are good, and they should be asked! Thankyou for being here with us. Let’s get started, together.

Impact Story
Dr. Melodie Bissell, President of Plan to Protect | Victim Advocate
I can't imagine anything more devastating than losing faith and trust in a good God who loves and cares for you. However, too often, church leaders abuse their power, influence, authority and control and harm individuals for the benefit of the church or themselves. The impact of spiritual abuse too often robs individuals of their understanding of God's goodness and character -- this form of abuse has been called soul murder! That should never be! There is hope and healing available. I am so grateful for the ministry of beEmboldened, for they walk with victims and survivors of spiritual abuse during one of the most difficult times of their lives. The beEmboldened team has the tools, training and resources one needs to navigate this season, plant seeds of hope, and nurture the healing process. I fully endorse this ministry and am honoured to serve on their Advisory Team."

FAQ's
1. Can I buy this course at any time?
Courses vary from On-Demand to Full Access experiences offered 1-2 times per year. For On Demand courses, you can purchase and go through the course at any time. For Full Access experiences, the cart opens for a 10 day registration period, then closes again.
If you’re desiring a Full Access experience, please make sure to sign up within the 10 day registration window to ensure access to the course. We will keep you updated on social media and through our website on upcoming launch dates, so please make sure you’re following and subscribed so you don’t miss an announcement!
2. How many hours a week will this course take?
The recorded content is between 1 - 1.5 hours each week. With time to sit with the information, take notes if desired, and maybe begin to apply a new tool, we would recommend setting aside 2-3 hours of your time each week.
For a Full Access experience, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a weekly Q&A team with a qualified beEmboldened team member. This time is optional and would add up to an hour to your total time each week.
3. Do I get the full course all at once?
For an On Demand course, yes, you will have access to the whole course right away.
If you’re participating in a Full Access experience, we do not want you to “drink from a firehose” and want the content you’re engaging with to line up with our optional weekly Q&A sessions. This is why we will be dripping content to you each week. This means you will receive your course on a week-to-week basis (starting each Monday). This keeps the information bite-sized, allowing you to really sit with the information you are learning each week, to begin applying the new information and tools, and to get the most out of your optional weekly Q&A time.
4. What if I miss a week?
No worries at all! You will maintain access to all prior weeks for one year, so you can go back and catch up.
Live Q&A time cannot be made up, so you’re encouraged to attend as many live as
you’re able!
5. Do I get to keep this content forever?
Once you purchase your course, you will have access to the content for 1 year. Feel free to go back through the information as often as you like. We just ask that you do not share this course with those who have not paid for it. Your commitment to integrity will allow us to keep creating innovative programs and services for many years to come.
6. Will I need to invest in any other materials or resources for this course?
No, we provide you with a pdf guide and summary sheet each week to help you with the content. There is no need to purchase any other materials or resources for this course. We have got you covered!
7. Do you offer a payment plan?
Please reach out to us directly if you’re in need of a payment plan. We’d love to help you! hello@beEmboldened.com
8. Do you offer a sponsorship option for this course?
Please reach out to us directly about sponsorship and we’ll let you know if we have one available. We hope we do! hello@beEmboldened.com
9. Do you offer a refund?
No, but if you are truly dissatisfied with the course, we can discuss how to apply the funds you've spent to our sponsorship program for individuals who have financial need and would benefit from bE's support services.
10. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Can I really do this?
Naomi lived the lessons in these modules herself and she has experienced firsthand the profound changes they offer us. Many others have also gone through this course and have shared their gratitude for its creation. You are equally capable and special – we all have the opportunity to rebuild after spiritual abuse!
11. How long will the course be available?
Live Q&A time is optional for all who purchase a Full Access experience. There is no pressure to join or participate. A qualified beEmboldened team member will be there live and would be thrilled to see you, if you choose!
12. What if I cannot make the live Q&A?
Live Q&A time is pre-scheduled. Due to our strong commitment to confidentiality, the event will not be recorded, so those in attendance feel most safe to share. We recommend putting the date on your calendar right away so you can plan around it, if
possible!
13. How long will the course be available?
The course is available for one year after the start date. You can access it during this timeframe.
If you are thinking, “This sounds amazing but I’m still not 100% sure.”
We get it. Spiritual abuse is painful, and it has likely bled onto every area of your life, both internally and externally. If you have sought support before, you have probably been disappointed. Either they backed away slowly, not knowing what to say, or they were accidentally dismissive with platitudes about God having a plan. Maybe your suffering was minimized or your integrity was called into question. Or maybe someone was fascinated by the train wreck of a story and forgot that no, you are a real person, and the damage has been done to you and your very real life. If any of this resonates
with you, our hearts break with yours. This should not have happened – you were treated unjustly, whether intentionally or accidentally.
Again, our hope for this course is that as you watch and listen, you will know you are understood. Naomi, Blake, Karla, and Kelsea all offer differing perspectives to connect
with, providing you with countless moments of, “Yes! Me too!” and “I’m not alone" and "That's a good idea."
There is strength to be found in not feeling alone. We hope you begin to feel that strength, that possibility, that hope that yes: this moment is temporary, and yes: you will
continue forward into a life with depth, fullness, and trust. Maybe again or maybe even for the first time.
